November Blog / Merry Christmas

I write this blog on a blustery cold winter day. My husband is napping, cozy by the fireplace. Our little dog curled up on his lap, just the way he likes it. We hosted 18 family members for Thanksgiving this year and created more precious family members. Everyone pitches in to help and it was a lovely time. I think I’m nearly done Christmas shopping, I now have to sort through the packages and organize my gift list, then start the gift wrapping. Oh yes, and then there are the Christmas cards…and Christmas baking!
I attended the funeral of another dear Aunt in November. Originally, I had 9 Aunts and Uncles, now I have only one Aunt and one Uncle left. She was 91 and had suffered the last few years, but memories of her sweet laughter and kindness leave another hole in the tapestry of my life. On the upside of it, I visited with several old friends and many cousins which is always a joy for me. And I met the most delightful 100 year old lady who sat beside my brother and me. (She still drives and mows her own large lawn with her rider mower.) She shared memories of our mother and  their teenage escapades with GREAT fondness and humor.
We’ve had several guests in the last few weeks which is always appreciated. Especially since my husband’s health has declined so markedly. Not much reading time either. However I read one exceptionally good book:
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. The protagonist, Hannah, receives a secret note, ‘Protect her‘, from her beloved husband of one year the day he disappears. She knows it has to be his 16-year-old daughter, Bailey, the stepdaughter she’s had a tenuous relationship ever since meeting her. However when the FBI and Federal Marshals hound them for info they’ve no idea how to answer, they bond as tightly as any birth mother/daughter. I’ve read other stories that started like this one and almost didn’t stick with it. But I’m so glad I did. Laura Dave gave the format an original twist and surprise ending. I highly recommend this one.
We’ve watched several movies, entertaining but not memorable - the best one we’ve seen was on Netflicks, Snow Sister, a Scandanavian film. Unforgettable and thought provoking. We also watched the first two seasons of The Diplomat for the second time. Fantastic plotting and casting.
May you all find peace and joy at this most wonderful time of the year.  Till next time, stay well and try to find time to read at least one Christmas novel this month.
Later,
Ann
