To Read or Not to Read…

My granddaughter’s wedding was held on August 4th which was also a celebration of my father’s 90th birthday. It was an outdoor wedding, on a very hot day, with the reception in a barn with hay for a backdrop. It was no ordinary barn, looked more like a large elegant Swiss chalet.  A very different and very beautiful wedding. Bride and groom were radiantly happy and left for a two week honeymoon to Yellowstone National Park with a driving tour of America.

We’ve had a summer long card and chocolate bar shower for Dad. He rec’d 80 cards and lots of visits from friends and family as well as tons of chocolate…not literally! Now he’s hoping to live long enough to eat all that chocolate. I was hoping for 90 cards for 90 years but summer’s not over yet and he may recieve a few more cards.

Several months ago I recorded a book review of Left Neglected by Lisa Genova for WPSU BookMark. It played the week of August 8. If you missed it and would like to listen, please click on: http://www.wpsu.org/radio/single_entry/LL-4304/bookmark

I’ve embarked on a Masters in Ceative Writing Program. It’s very intense and demanding. But what else could I expect? I have very little free time. I received my Medicare card and started a Masters Program the same week. Yikes…that sounds crazy! But I like it and I’m learning a lot. My goal is to be the best writer I can be.

I wrote another article, this one about why writer’s use pen names. It has been picked up by Working Writers magazine. I couldn’t decide on which title between these two: A Rose is Still a Rose By Any Name or To Use or Not to Use Pen Names. The editor will decide.

I’ve been reading books, but unfortunately none I’d bother recommending. I read one that was so disgusting and vile, I won’t even mention it’s title. In fact, I’m taking it back to the store for a refund, to officially protest being taken! Same thing with movies, nothing memorable to report. Till next time, I’ll keep reading and hope to find a good book to recommend.

Keep reading, my friends. Ann
