Happy Birthday to me!

I hosted my own birthday party Sunday afternoon. My stepdaughter who lives in Switzerland tells me it is the Eurpoean way… My famliy’s been in the USA since the mid 1800s so it had nothing to do with family traditon. BUT I liked it. I just might do it this way every year. I cooked a huge pot of spaghetti and meatballs. My ninety year old father came and he brought my widowed eighty-eight year old aunt, most of the grandchildren were here as well as their parents and my sister and brother-in-law. We had twenty six for dinner and it was fun! Everyone helped in the kitchen as needed. Can you imagine what it would’ve cost if we’d all gone out for dinner?? Plus we would not have had the space or opportunity to talk to anyone except those seated close by, this way the children could play and everyone interacted and mingled freely.

My Masters Writing course is keeping me busy and I am loving it. I’m learning so much…I wish I’d done this years ago but I realize this is right time for me to do it.

I finished reading a good book today. Yesterday a dear friend gave it to me for my birthday. It’s a memoir, Tolstoy and the Purple Chair by Nina Sankovitch. I usually don’t like memoirsGlass Castle being an exception. I called her this afternoon to tell her how much I enjoyed it. She was shocked I’d finshed it already. Check it out, its worthwhile.

We’ve seen three good movies in the last two weeks. From Netflicks, a documentary, Chasing Madoff. Excellent as well as infuriating. Lawless, a fantastic movie, a true story set in rural Virgina mountains during prohibition. 2016: Obama’s America, a well done documentary very interesting movie regardless of your political leanings.

An interview of Ann McCauley on Writing, done last spring will be published in ItahcaLit.com in the fall issue. *Fall issue is not yet posted.

Till next time, keep reading my friends. And enjoy the cooler fall weather.
