It’s THAT time of year again…

My life has been rolling along so fast that sometimes I feel like I’m on a runaway train! But then ... I take a deep breath and count my blessings. I planned to visit my dad today. But a winter storm is predicted for this afternoon so instead I chatted with him on the phone.

We hosted 31 guests and two extra dogs for Thanksgiving dinner. My dad, all our children and most of the grandchildren, including the beautiful new great granddaughter plus several good friends were here. It was great fun and I was thankful for everyone helping with preparations and clean up. (Three left just as we set down to eat because they had another dinner to attend.)

I finished my course work for my Masters classes on time. After many hours of hard work, our home is decorated beautifully. My Christmas shopping is done and most things are wrapped. Maybe I will get to Christmas cards this afternoon. Every woman knows the drill for Christmas! It’s a love/hate situation, a real pressure cooker. We simply must take time to pause for a quiet cup of tea and enjoy the ambience we’ve created; and let the true joy of the season permeate our souls.

I’ve continued to read many books. Most recently Guests on Earth by Lee Smith. I was able to go to Durham, N.C. for one of her book launches. It was wonderful, what a delightful gracious lady. I plan to post a photo on Facebook today. She has long been one of my favorite writers.

Our book club choice for November was Jeff Talarigo’s The Ginseng Hunter. I’d read it two years ago. Since I was the discussion leader, I re-read it and the second reading was even better.

My first review for Writer’s Advice was 11/22/63 by Stephen King; it will appear in January/February issue. I loved the novel.

We’ve seen some good movies, the best we’ve seen are The Butler, Fruitvale Station and Starting Fire, The Hunger Games.

My goal is to blog more often but life keeps getting in the way. In case I don’t get back to you again before… Merry Christmas to all!

Remember: take time to read. Later,

Ann
